Well, I guess I’ve heard of stranger things happening in contests, but it stands to reason that in a field of one, you can only have first place. However, that is using logic, and we should all know by now that never does anyone any good.

Grandmother had the only cake in the contest - and still came second | the Daily Mail
‘My friend came over to me at the fete and said I had come second,’ she said.‘I asked her how many more entries there had been but she just started laughing and said I was the only one.’
She was let down, in the judges’ eyes, by the indentations in the top of her sponge from the oven rack.
‘I definitely wasn’t annoyed about it,’ she said. ‘I thought my cake would do quite well but I didn’t expect to get first place.
Okay — I’ll have to admit, this is interesting and something that I will more than likely try, out of sheer morbid curiosity.
The recipe, which doesn’t state what meat it best compliments, includes garlic, onion, ketchup, vinegar, hot sauce, and Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup. Of course, there are more ingredients, but that’s the gist of it. (more…)

Raw produce at the salad bar, pre-made salads at the deli counter and other pre-cooked prepared foods all have the potential for harboring harmful bacteria (like E. coli, salmonella and Norovirus). “The biggest contributors to unsafe food are foods that are held at unsafe temperatures, handling of food by individuals with poor hygiene, and refilling partially used containers of perishable food with fresh food,†says Michael Doyle, Ph.D., director of the Center for Food Safety and Quality Enhancement at University of Georgia.
This is something that I have just failed to think about when I walk through the deli section. Ugh…
