Catnip

Recently, Brandy and I built an herb garden in the backyard. We did this because Brandy is an avid chef and loves to cook with fresh herbs. We went to the Home Depot and got all the necessities: soil, fertilizer, MiracleGro, and plants (of many varieties). While we were getting stocked up for our garden, we ran across catnip. I, for one, had never thought about growing catnip, but I figured we should give it a shot. I mean, why not? It could provide Bosco hours of entertainment.

So we get the garden installed and all without incident. The plants and herbs are growing. And the basil has become militant and looks to be planning its invasion of the lavender. We’re looking to the UN for a resolution to stop the invasion, but we are thinking it may be easier to just move the lavender. That’s besides the point…

The point of this story is that I have been thinking about catnip and it’s uses. I discovered that catnip can be used for more than just making your cat neurotic. I was surprised to find that catnip has medicinal uses. Here is a sampling of what I’ve discovered: (more…)
